In Chambéry, Unimog trucks take to the track for the Snowplow World Championship

The event brings together the international elite of winter road maintenance. Teams from 12 countries compete to demonstrate their precision and mastery of snow-clearing vehicles.

Germany is represented by three drivers who qualified during the national snowplow championship held in Marktredwitz in September 2025.

In front of nearly 7,000 spectators, 33 teams took part in a particularly technical course.

The victory went to the road maintenance center from Oberweyern, ahead of the teams from Bingen am Rhein and Emmelshausen. These results determined the drivers selected for the world championship, where only one driver is allowed per vehicle.

Participants must face several challenges inspired by real snow-clearing operations:

All under time pressure and with a very strict scoring system. Every centimeter counts: coordination between the steering wheel, accelerator and hydraulic controls must be perfect.

In this type of competition, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog demonstrates its strengths: excellent manoeuvrability, precise steering and great versatility, allowing it to combine a snowplow blade with spreading equipment.

These qualities also explain its success in real operations. In municipal winter services, the Unimog is used to quickly secure roads and ensure traffic continuity. Each year, up to 1,000 Unimog implement carriers roll off the production line at the Wörth am Rhein plant.

The world championship takes place as part of the 17th International Congress on Winter Service, Resilience and Decarbonization, which gathers experts from around the world in Chambéry.

Beyond the competition, the event highlights knowledge sharing, technical innovations and solutions for the future of winter road maintenance.
