Brittany Ferries strengthens its service between France and Ireland
The objective: to secure transport capacity and provide greater visibility for freight and logistics players.
Seven weekly sailings guaranteed
Following the withdrawal of a competing operator in October 2025, Brittany Ferries secured new port slots and decided to charter the ro-ro vessel MV Norbay for one year, with the option to extend for an additional year.
Thanks to this reinforcement, seven weekly sailings will be maintained on the Cherbourg–Rosslare route throughout 2026.
“For our freight customers, stability and continuity are essential to plan and transport goods from continental Europe to Ireland,” explains Christophe Mathieu, CEO of Brittany Ferries.
The company is therefore confirming a consistent service throughout the year, with the possibility of extending the charter or deploying another vessel before the end of the contract.
First crossing on March 23
Commissioned in 1994, the MV Norbay is 167 meters long and offers more than 2 kilometers of freight lane capacity, along with 57 cabins dedicated to truck drivers.
Its first commercial crossing is scheduled for today, March 23, 2026.
The vessel will operate three weekly rotations between Cherbourg and Rosslare, complementing the existing services provided by the Cotentin and the Salamanca, bringing the total to seven weekly departures.
Chartered from P&O Ferries, the Norbay will be operated with its own crew under a fixed-term agreement
