Haldex strengthens its position as an integrated braking systems specialist

Long recognised as a leading name in commercial vehicle braking technology, Haldex is continuing its transformation. Now part of the SAF-HOLLAND Group, the Swedish specialist is expanding beyond individual components to become a provider of integrated and connected braking solutions for trucks, buses and trailers.

As demands for safety, efficiency and connectivity continue to grow, Haldex is focusing on a comprehensive approach that combines mechanical expertise, electronic controls and software functionalities. The objective is to help vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators manage increasing system complexity while improving performance and service efficiency.

Haldex has been a leading supplier of brake adjusters since the 1960s. This expertise remains a cornerstone of its product portfolio, including solutions such as the AA1 automatic brake adjuster, designed to maintain consistent brake clearance under varying operating conditions.

The company also offers the S-ABA (Self-Setting Automatic Brake Adjuster), equipped with an electronic brake pad wear sensor. The system helps improve maintenance planning while reducing the risk of incorrect adjustments thanks to its self-adjusting control arm.

With its ModulT air disc brake, Haldex addresses the industry’s growing focus on operational efficiency. The single-tappet design reduces system weight and minimises the number of wear components, helping lower maintenance complexity and reduce total operating costs throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

The system also incorporates an automatic adjustment mechanism that compensates for brake pad wear, ensuring consistent braking performance over time.

Beyond mechanical systems, Haldex is investing heavily in digital technologies for next-generation trailers. Its EB+ 4.0 electronic braking system features a modular architecture that allows the integration of additional braking, safety and comfort functions according to customer requirements.

The company has also developed a Software Update Management System (SUMS) to support the increasing digitalisation of commercial vehicles. This solution provides fleet operators with greater transparency while improving service and maintenance processes.

Since joining the SAF-HOLLAND Group in 2023, Haldex has benefited from expanded technological resources, additional development capabilities and a global service network. Together, the two companies can now offer customers a comprehensive one-stop shop covering both suspension and braking systems.
