Goodyear takes another step toward more sustainable truck racing with a new FIA ETRC tyre made from 60% sustainable materials

Every driver competing this year will use a newly developed racing tyre made with 60% sustainable materials, setting a new benchmark for truck racing tyres. This new generation improves on the previous tyre, which already incorporated 55% sustainable materials. By reaching the 60% threshold, the tyre earns Goodyear’s internal “two-leaf” sustainability recognition, making it the truck tyre with the highest share of sustainable materials ever produced by the company.

To develop this new tyre, Goodyear has integrated carefully selected alternative materials, including silica derived from waste rice husk ash and carbon black sourced from alternative feedstocks. Another key commitment: racing tyres are not discarded after competition. Instead, they are retreaded and converted into road-use truck tyres, extending their lifecycle and reducing waste. Beyond sustainability, the tyre has been engineered to meet the demanding needs of the championship: a single tyre specification capable of delivering consistent performance across different circuits and weather conditions, while offering improved durability to reduce overall tyre usage.

The Goodyear FIA ETRC has been advancing its sustainability agenda for several years. In 2021, it became the first FIA-sanctioned motorsport series to switch to fully renewable biofuel through a partnership with TotalEnergies. In 2025, IVECO also introduced its electric S-eWay as the championship’s official pace truck. According to FIA Truck Racing Commission President Ignacio Fernandez, this latest tyre development proves that performance, technical innovation and environmental responsibility can successfully go hand in hand in truck racing.

For Goodyear, truck racing remains an essential innovation platform. Lessons learned on the track are directly transferred to commercial truck tyre technologies, helping fleets improve efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness on the road. The 2026 Goodyear FIA ETRC season gets underway on May 30–31 in Misano, Italy, launching another season where racing performance and sustainable innovation continue to move forward together.
