Mercedes-Benz Trucks eArocs 400: the electric construction truck faces the ultimate cold-weather test

Before entering service, the Mercedes-Benz Trucks eArocs 400 underwent extreme cold-weather testing near the Arctic Circle, at –20°C.

A full-scale test designed to validate the performance, range, and reliability of the first electric construction truck from the three-pointed star brand, destined to operate on the most demanding urban job sites.

These trials aimed to collect essential data for final vehicle optimization ahead of series production. Engineers evaluated traction and stability on snowy and icy roads, cold-start behavior, battery performance and charging efficiency at very low temperatures, as well as the effectiveness of the electric drivetrain.

Designed for urban construction transport, the eArocs 400 is a zero local-emission truck with low noise levels. Unveiled in a world premiere in 2025 at the Bauma trade fair, it will be available in 37- and 44-tonne versions, in an 8x4 configuration, and can be bodied as either a concrete mixer or a tipper truck.

Equipped with LFP batteries offering a total capacity of 414 kWh, it provides up to 200 km of range in mixer configuration and 240 km as a tipper. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, charging power can reach 400 kW, enabling the battery to go from 10% to 80% in approximately 46 minutes.

With these successful extreme cold-weather tests, Mercedes-Benz Trucks demonstrates that electric technology is now capable of meeting construction-site demands — even under extreme climatic conditions.
