Manufactured within ZF’s industrial network in Germany, China and Brazil, the TraXon now equips thousands of trucks and coaches worldwide. From its introduction, it redefined standards in terms of efficiency, durability and driving comfort for automated transmissions.
“The original TraXon introduced innovations that set new industry benchmarks,” explains Christian Feldhaus, Vice President of the Transmissions & Hybrids segment within ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions division. “With TraXon 2, we are building on this legacy by offering even faster gear shifts, enhanced digital integration and improved energy efficiency.”
TraXon 2: technological evolution
Already in production, TraXon 2 builds on the proven modular platform architecture while integrating a new generation of microprocessors, enhanced safety modules and significant software upgrades.
The gear-shift control units and actuators — developed and manufactured in-house by ZF — help deliver faster shift times and reduced fuel consumption compared with the previous generation.
This new version is designed not only for long-haul trucks and coaches, but also for demanding applications such as medium- and heavy-duty mobile cranes, where precision and reliability are critical.
A transmission ready for the electrification era
Anticipating the transition toward more sustainable road transport solutions, ZF is already preparing the next step with the TraXon 2 Hybrid.
This hybrid variant offers strong potential for CO₂ reduction. It will enable fully electric driving phases — ideal for urban and congested areas — while retaining the combustion engine for long-distance journeys.
With 1.5 million units produced, TraXon confirms its status as a technological pillar in heavy-duty drivetrains. And with TraXon 2 and its upcoming hybrid version, ZF clearly demonstrates that this transmission is ready to support the energy transition of road transport.
