MAN celebrates its first year of series-produced electric trucks

TruckStop was there on launch day, and the results are clear.

Exactly one year ago, we were on site in Munich to witness the historic launch of series production of MAN electric trucks. Twelve months later, the manufacturer is presenting results that are quite impressive: around 1,300 heavy electric trucks have rolled out of the Bavarian plant. The “electric lion” is no longer a trial run; it is now part of the everyday life of the assembly line.

Diesel and electric, on the same line

The industrial challenge was nevertheless something of a puzzle: assembling electric and diesel TGS and TGX models on one and the same line, in mixed production. One year later, the concept has proved its worth. The production rate remains steady, at around 100 trucks per day, regardless of what is under the bonnet.

“The production of electric and diesel trucks on the same line has proved its worth during this first year of series production,” explains Michael Kobriger, member of the Executive Board responsible for Production and Logistics at MAN Truck & Bus. “It offers MAN great flexibility in terms of demand, model diversity and delivery capacity.”

Behind the scenes, more than 5,000 employees have been trained in high-voltage technologies to absorb this shift. Enough to prove Axel Karnasch, the site director, right: precision and excellence remain, he says, a daily reality in Munich.

The next chapter is being written in Poland

MAN does not intend to stop there. Next stop: Kraków, where series production of the MAN eTGL (12 tonnes) and eTGM (16 tonnes) is soon due to begin, completing an electric range that now covers the entire spectrum, from 12 to 50 tonnes. Nuremberg, once a pure diesel engine plant, has also been converted into a battery production centre.

The electric lion is really hitting the road

On the road, MAN’s electric truck is already being used for distribution, automotive logistics, construction and even long-haul transport. With seven battery packs for 623 kWh gross, the range rises to up to 830 km without recharging. Figures that are no longer coming from the laboratory, but from real-world operation. A useful reminder: around 95% of MAN’s emissions come from the use of the trucks it sells. Electrifying the range is therefore not a nice-to-have; it is the heart of the manufacturer’s climate strategy, and it is starting to show, as MAN is clearly increasing its electric market share in France!
