Scania Spotted Testing a Facelifted Version of Its R-Series

This prototype clearly suggests that the Swedish manufacturer is preparing a mid-cycle update to its New Generation (NG) range, launched in 2016 and now approaching the ten-year mark. The changes appear to be particularly visible at the front of the vehicle, where a redesigned grille can be seen despite the extensive camouflage.
One of the most significant new features could be the adoption of camera-based mirrors, now positioned above the doors, replacing traditional mirrors. Scania would finally be following a path already taken by several of its competitors over the past few years.
However, the manufacturer had already experimented with camera-based mirror systems, albeit in a significantly different configuration. Offered as aftermarket solutions, these systems never achieved real commercial success, suggesting that Scania was not entirely satisfied with the concept at the time.
We should be able to tell you more very soon, but one thing already seems clear: the IAA trade show next September could well have a few surprises in store for us from several manufacturers. The age of aerodynamics is more relevant than ever…
