AFTRAL: the HandiTRUCK hits the road to open access to the profession

A lifting platform, adapted controls and a concrete objective: enabling people with disabilities to train for heavy truck driving. With its HandiTRUCK, AFTRAL participated in the TransFrance Handicap 2026 to present these solutions to future drivers and companies.
From 19 to 24 September, the third edition of the TransFrance Handicap travelled through Hauts-de-France and Grand Est. This solidarity rally brings together crews associating people with disabilities and able-bodied people around vintage cars. For AFTRAL and its partners, it also constituted an opportunity to show how to make transport and logistics professions more accessible.
Three crews hit the road in two vintage cars and the HandiTRUCK. Three participants with disabilities were thus able to share their professional projects in goods transport, with the support of AFTRAL and Agefiph, as well as the participation of OPCO Mobilités and SD Diffusion.
Adaptations to discover in practice
The HandiTRUCK is a training truck adapted for the training of people with motor or hearing disabilities. It features in particular a lifting platform to access the cab and adapted driving devices.
Its development is based on a partnership between AFTRAL, Agefiph, OPCO Mobilités and Carcept Prev. The challenge goes beyond training: the solutions presented can also be transposed into companies to facilitate access to the driving position.
Bringing candidates and companies together

Several appointments allowed the public to discover the equipment, notably during a stop at AFTRAL in Bischheim and at the arrival at the Institut des jeunes sourds de la Malgrange.
People with disabilities, companies and public employment service actors were able to attend demonstrations and obtain explanations on the adaptations, innovations and regulatory developments.
A concrete way to approach access to the profession: showing the equipment, explaining the possibilities and allowing both candidates and employers to picture themselves behind the wheel.
